Custom Shades of Grey
Why custom
Custom solutions often come with a big price tag. And why not? Often they can be completely unique products, built from the ground up. We try and avoid this solution as much as possible. And for good reason.
Custom headaches
First, custom solutions mean custom problems. This is often the greatest consideration with custom solutions. As a developer creates something new for the first time, there are bound to be at least some bugs. The only way to limit this exposure if to use as many tried and true tools as you can.
When we roll out custom solutions, our goal is to use much of our established code base as we can. In other words, we try and get ninety percent of the problem solved with code we know and love (and have already debugged) as a strong foundation. This often limits what parts of the project need testing, and means less time hunting for bugs.
